Learning how to take care of Me!

Pre- 2009: I used to take care of my 3 children (one whom had just graduated and started college), my mother who was living with Alzheimer's disease, ran a restaurant, was a freelance photographer, managing our rent houses and still managed to take care of my home. On top of all that, I still found time to run 5 miles a day. My husband worked away for 28-30 days at a time and helped when he could, but in the end, I was always on the go with something to do. Whew!

Then, in 2009, I brought my daughter to the hospital for a test one afternoon and when walking back to my car, for no reason what so ever, my left leg gives out of me! If it weren't for the car I would have probably hit my face on the pavement. Turns out, I tore my Meniscus!!


—Yes there is a Moral to my story!—


During 2009: With my daughter now in the hospital for two weeks, I repaired my meniscus and started physical therapy. It was at this time, with all of this plus everything else going on in my life, that I started to gain weight at rapid pace. I also started forgetting proper nouns, being very emotional (which if you know me, is NOT me), experiencing joint pain and then to top it off I would be bouncing off the walls all night long. When I would finally get to fall asleep I couldn't seem to get up in the morning or shall I say in the afternoons. I would wake up at 1:00 pm and still have no energy to get up! So I began seeking help, I went to Doctor after Doctor yet no one seemed to know what was really going on. Finally, a Doctor listened more to my symptoms rather than only paying attention to my test numbers! That is when I came to find out that my thyroids were off. My female hormones and my cortisol levels were out of whack and going crazy.

At this moment, it hit me! All while taking care of everything and everyone else, my body was screaming at me to take care of ME. I needed to start focusing on myself! If I didn’t take care of myself, how was I going to be able to help the people I loved and do all the things that I loved?!

After meeting with my new doctor and multiple blood tests, I was armed with new medications and a new plan! I thought this is all I would need to bounce back into my regular life and back into shape!

Guess Again..

Another Diet Meal Plan came and went, I tried Starvation Diet attempts, No Carb, then Carb, Mail order foods, Shakes and everything else you can think of. Yet, NOTHING WORKED! I then began to think that I was destined to be this way. This all time high weight, with no energy person that I had become was who I was supposed to be. Then to add to that, with no motivation, my house slowly became overturned. It was so out of order, it was ridiculous. After years and years, I settled! I decided I would try my best to learn to live with this new appearance and this tired, out of order life.


Fast forward to January 2021: I was photographed at a wedding and I was so upset at what I saw and knew I had to give it one last effort. I decided to start making subtle changes, like something as silly as posting a quote on my Social Media to hold me accountable. After that, I did something as simple as making myself do something productive for 10 minutes a day, such as cleaning or organizing.

Jump to February, I was searching on Instagram and saw a post for “Faster Way to Fat Loss: a 6 week plan.” To be honest, I thought it was a scam at first. However, I saw that there was a 6 week session that was starting March 1, and with my birthday being March 2, I thought what can it hurt! I’m worth dedicating 6 weeks to myself to try! I registered as a birthday gift to myself and 6 weeks later I’m here to say how impressed I am with this program! It has given me so much of my life back in such a short amount of time! I have already been able to get off of some of my medicines, have increased energy, and mental clarity!


I have realized without taking care of me first, I cannot do anything for my family!

My family means too much to me to not be there for them in my healthiest form!


With all that being said:

Here are my before and after photos just to show my progress!! I’m about to join another 6 weeks summer round and cannot wait for further progress! I have never had a program turn so many aspects of my life around! A huge thank you to @AmandaTress and @Fasterwaytofatloss !!
